How not to lose tasks when moving them to the next day.
Intro
One of the most frustrating parts of a workday is unfinished tasks.
When work time is over, there’s often no energy or motivation left to leave notes for tomorrow about what still needs to be done.
At the same time, if you don’t track remaining tasks, it’s easy to end up in a situation where:
- Context is lost
- Some tasks get forgotten
- There’s no time at all to remember what needs to be done
As a result, moving tasks to the next day becomes an essential part of the workday.
Whether it’s a recurring task or something you simply didn’t manage to finish,
you need a way to account for it in your plan.
Overtime Tracker lets you move tasks to tomorrow quickly and easily,
without spending too much time or mental energy on it.
Finish → Continue tomorrow (moving a task to tomorrow)
Let’s say you have a large task. For example, organizing a year’s worth of documents.
You spent some time on it today but didn’t manage to complete it.
The most logical decision is to move it to tomorrow.
You’re not planning to work on it today anymore, so you press Finish.
This is where you get the ability to quickly and easily schedule the task for tomorrow.
Just click Continue tomorrow, and the task will be moved to the next day.
Planning recurring tasks
But what if a task repeats day after day?
For example, a daily morning work call?
You could move the task as described above, but there’s an easier way:
plan the task for a longer period right away.
To do this, when creating a task, simply fill in the “Finish date” field.
Select the date until which the task is relevant, and it will appear in your plan up to that date.
Calendar
Even though the service is designed to keep you focused on the current day, there are often situations where
you need to fill gaps in past work sessions or, наоборот, plan something days ahead.
To do this, simply select the desired day in the calendar.
The rules are quite simple:
- You can add tasks to past days to fill in missing information and update reports
- You can add tasks to future days so you don’t forget about them
- You can’t start tasks in the past or future (planning only)
Why it’s important to be able to move tasks
Planning is a crucial part of the work process. But we often become prisoners of the idea of productivity.
Because of this, we try to “get everything done” at any cost — pushing harder and forcing focus.
This approach can make sense in isolated cases. But if work constantly requires overtime just to get everything done,
that’s a clear planning mistake. It means something important isn’t being taken into account.
- The human factor
- Unexpected circumstances
- Fatigue and more
It’s important to understand that rigidly sticking to a plan as a habit can negatively affect both productivity and overall well-being.
That’s why Overtime Tracker’s functionality is focused on helping you understand:
- What was planned incorrectly
- What consumes time and needs to be accounted for
- How to plan the next day taking past mistakes into account
